Department History

Founded in 1837, the Monroe Fire Department is an organization of dedicated professionals who are committed to serving the community by protecting life and property through prevention, education, emergency medical and fire services. Operating out of two stations the department covers 10 square-miles with a residential population of over 21,000. Each of the 2 stations is strategically located in areas that provide the best coverage and response to the citizens we serve.

The Department consist of 18 full time Firefighter/Paramedics and 32 Public safety officers responding for all hazards in the city. These members operate on 2 fully equipped Advanced Life Support engines providing the highest level of medical and emergency response available. The Department is also trained at operations level for Haz-mat response and provides water rescue response.
