UPDATE 08.21.203: The results are in - we are happy to announce that
Buddy was the name chosen with 42.3% of the vote!
The
City of Monroe Public Safety Department is proud to introduce its newest member, a 12-week old goldendoodle, who will serve as a therapy dog for the community.
This specially trained canine will play a crucial role in providing emotional support and comfort to not only our officers, but also for Monroe students and the community during challenging and stressful situations. A first for Monroe County, our new canine companion - who will soon be named with the community’s help - will join School Resource Officer (SRO) Josh Sawdy in his duties with Monroe Public Schools and in the community. The pup's calm and gentle nature makes him well-suited for interacting with people and assisting in crisis intervention situations, community outreach events and any time a comforting presence is needed.
The new therapy dog was provided to the Monroe Public Safety Department through Michigan Doodle Rescue Connect’s (MDRC)
K9’s 4 Blue program. Supported by the rescue’s members and donors, this program donates puppies to Law Enforcement agencies throughout Michigan so the dogs can be trained as therapy, or comfort animals in schools and communities. MDRC provides $1,500 a year for every year the dog serves to be used for vet care, dog food, supplies and more.
We looking for community input in choosing a name that embodies the spirit of our new four-legged associate!

Everyone is encouraged to take the survey!
The selected name will become our therapy dog's new approachable identity, helping him to play an essential role in boosting morale, reducing stress, and promoting mental wellness in our city.
We look forward to introducing you to our newest team member during events, presentations, and outreach programs in the future!
