What is new for 2025?

For 2025, we will be implementing a NEW CHAPTER of our seasonal celebration by focusing our efforts to light up the Martin Luther King Jr. Pedestrian Bridge!

Complementing an extensive remodel completed in 2024, we are excited for the addition of a deluxe animated Santa sleigh to the display. This vibrant new feature will soar along the bridge, complete with moving reindeer and festive detailing. Not only will it enhance the visual appeal of the bridge, but it will also bring an extra dose of holiday magic and joy to the community—creating a dazzling centerpiece that captures the spirit of the season for all to enjoy while welcoming them into Downtown Monroe!

We will continue to highlight Monroe Street along the Central Business District. For 2025, we will be focus on Third to Seventh Streets. Our main downtown thoroughfare will shine brighter with new lights as we expand the HHL footprint.

Whether strolling in our Downtown Social District enjoying an evening out, attending an event, getting a little holiday shopping done, or making memories with family and friends, residents and visitors are sure to enjoy what we have in store for 2025 and beyond!

What is the goal of Hometown Holiday Lights?

Utilizing the inherent charm of our historic landscape, we hope to curate a collection of holiday lighting elements that will bring residents and visitors into our community to stroll, engage, shop, drink and dine.

Through these established partnerships, we are planning a multi-year public/private campaign to add additional lighting elements annually, which will be unveiled at the Holid ay Tree Lighting event.

This will not only create anticipation and excitement, but also foster community pride, support our Downtown culture, and create lasting memories for residents and visitors.

Who coordinates Hometown Holiday Lights?

The City of Monroe is facilitating Hometown Holiday Lights (HHL), with the support of the Downtown Development Authority.

As a registered government entity, contributions made towards the HHL through the City are 100% tax deductible, and 100% of the funds contributed will go towards acquisition of lighting elements and displays.

Where is it located?

Hometown Holiday Lights (HHL) began initially in 2021 in the Downtown Central Business District of the City of Monroe.

Over the past few years, the program has expanded and continues to grow. Any business within the City is encouraged to participate in the spirit of the light displays during the season to contribute to the overall festivities!

When will the lights be on display?

The HHL display kicks off with the annual Tree Lighting event in the City of Monroe. This event has taken place in the City for the past several decades and has included a variety of elements such as vendors, food trucks, performances, caroling, and more! It also heralds the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, taking place the Friday before Thanksgiving. A perfect opportunity to show your support of the City, its growth, families and businesses!
