St. Mary's Park Improvements Phase 1

The City of Monroe is pleased to announce the start of the St. Mary’s Park redevelopment project, beginning Wednesday, August 28, 2025.

This multi-phase initiative is designed to enhance accessibility, beauty, and functionality—ensuring the park continues to serve as a welcoming and vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.

Phase One: August – November 2025

Planned improvements in Phase One include:

  • Reconstruction of the main parking lot for improved access
  • Redesigned primary pathway from the MLK Jr. Bridge to Elm Avenue
  • New landscaping and additional sidewalks
  • A new pedestrian entrance off Monroe Street
  • A scenic riverfront walkway near the MLK Jr. Bridge, with riverside seating, picnic tables, and improved ADA-accessible pathways

Construction Impacts & Visitor Access

  • Park Access: St. Mary’s Park will remain open during construction.
  • Events: The Summer Concert Series will conclude before work begins and will not be affected.
  • Parking: The main parking lot will be closed. Visitors are encouraged to use the Riverfront lot across the MLK Jr. Bridge or the public parking lot near Subway on Elm Avenue.
  • Pedestrian Access: Efforts will be made to keep the MLK Jr. Pedestrian Footbridge open to Elm Avenue; however, intermittent closures may occur.
  • Timeline: Phase One construction is expected to be complete mid November, 2025, weather permitting.

Looking Ahead – Phase Two

Future improvements planned for Phase Two will include:

  • Resurfaced basketball and tennis courts
  • Refreshed playscape
  • Renovations to the bandshell
  • New shelter facility
  • Additional park enhancements to further improve recreational opportunities

Construction activities will be phased to minimize disruption to park visitors and community events.

The City of Monroe appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this time of progress. We look forward to welcoming everyone to a revitalized St. Mary’s Park upon completion of the improvements.
