Trails Advisory Committee assists in the design, planning, and advocacy of the trail system that will eventually connect to a greater Monroe County non-motorized network.

Duties and responsibilities of the committee will include, but not be limited to:

• Prioritize bicycle and pedestrian trail related projects to be completed using millage funds;
• Review past trail related master plan materials, incorporating or expanding on relevant concepts when appropriate and/or recommend Parks Master Plan updates related to trails;
• Review all phases of the projects' design and construction;
• Advise on policies, programs and ordinances as they relate to bicycle and pedestrian trail safety, design and construction;
• Work with city staff to suggest educational and promotional campaigns to provide information and promote bicycle and pedestrian trail related activities and education;
• Work with other agencies for the enhancement of city and county trail systems, such as the Monroe County Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force;
• Seek funding from city, state and federal sources;
• Advise on policies, projects, ordinances and funding as they relate to cycling and pedestrians as safe alternative means of transportation on roads and trails;
• Submit recommendations to City Council.

The Committee consists of seven members, five (5) of whom must be residents of the City and two (2) who are residents of Monroe. Additionally, one (1) member of City Council serves as a liaison to the committee.

Terms are two years with no limitation to reappointment. Committee members will be approved by City Council, and are subject to established guidelines, participation, and attendance.

Meetings are held quarterly.

The Board of Ethics administers and enforces the ordinances governing the standards of conduct.

The Citizen Planning Commission administers compliance with the City Zoning Ordinance and reviews requests for rezoning, special use permits, street or alley vacations, capital improvements, planned unit developments, and site plans.

This Board is the governing body established under state enabling law to halt deterioration and to foster development of the downtown business area.

Monroe Downtown Development Authority

The mission of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is to undertake district-wide improvements that have the greatest impact in strengthening the downtown areas and attracting new business.

The Historic District Commission advises the City Council on historic preservation issues including the establishment of historic districts and landmarks.

Historic District Commission

The Corporation is established to provide for the operation, management, financing, and planning of local and specialized transit services. The Commission is empowered to act under Articles of Incorporation filed with the Michigan Department of Commerce. Transit Services are administered by a management company overseen by the Commission.

Lake Erie Transit

The Authority was established under Act 234 of the Public Acts of 1925. The Authority operates within the Port District. The regulation of the internal affairs of the Authority is placed entirely with the Commission.
