Paint the Pavement: Community Crosswalk Painting Event

PAINT THE PAVEMENT!

The City of Monroe invites residents of all ages to participate in a unique and engaging community art project: Paint the Pavement!

This event offers an opportunity for community members to come together and help transform the crosswalk on Elm Avenue (near Borgess) leading into St. Mary’s Park through a vibrant, community-driven mural.

The mural—designed by local muralist Presley Bergmooser—is not only a work of art but also a component of a broader initiative to enhance pedestrian safety, promote walkability, and celebrate local arts and culture. This initiative is made possible through funding from the Michigan Fitness Foundation, which supports the development of healthier, more walkable communities across the state.

The Elm Avenue crosswalk is one of seven sites across Monroe to be revitalized this summer. Additional locations include:

  • Two crosswalks connecting the Riverside Manor neighborhood to Veterans Park
  • Four crosswalks at the intersection of Elm/Winchester and Dixie Highway
