REFINISHING OLD HOUSE WOODWORK (OR FURNITURE)

Whether you’re restoring an old home, refinishing a family heirloom, or simply curious about the craft, the City of Monroe’s Historic District Commission (HDC) invites residents to an evening of hands-on learning and local history. On Tuesday, November 18 at 7:00 PM, the Commission will host the “Refinishing Old House Woodwork and Furniture” led by Scott Kish, HDC member and longtime craftsman with a passion for restoring historic materials.

Attendees will learn how to safely strip and refinish old house woodwork and antique furniture, using methods that bring out natural beauty while protecting the piece for years to come.
The session will include a helpful list of tools and supplies, along with easy, step-by-step instructions that anyone can follow at home. Participants will have plenty of time to ask questions and share experiences working with older materials. The presentation will last about an hour, followed by a question-and-answer session.

This workshop offers a great opportunity to learn from local experts and celebrate the care and craftsmanship that make Monroe’s historic homes so special.

All are welcome to attend this free event.

When:  Tuesday, November 18: 7:00 PM
Where: Council Chambers, City Hall, 120 East First Street

* Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to find a seat before the presentation begins.

The Historic District Commission (HDC) helps preserve Monroe’s architectural heritage and protect the community’s historic charm. By caring for our older buildings and sharing preservation knowledge, the Commission helps maintain Monroe’s unique character and sense of place.
