- The above is highly subject to change and could spill into the week of July 29.
This work started in Wayne County and has been proceeding southward over the last two (2) weeks.
Given the nature of the work, they require complete closure of multiple crossings at once until the laying of the new rail is completed, and then permanent crossing replacement follows. City staff has requested that at least one crossing on each side of the River Raisin (either Noble or Elm on the north side and either Front, First, or Third on the south side) be open at all times.
As a result, there could be one or more days this coming week where nearly all crossings will be closed simultaneously for a short time, and then there will be a period of a few more days when multiple crossings will remain closed pending permanent pavement replacement.
Updates will be provided via this web page as the week progresses and the crew get closer to the City limits. The City of Monroe has no jurisdiction over these activities, but we will attempt to have the railroad place as much detour signage as possible.
City of Monroe first responders are aware of the upcoming closures and are making accommodations to have resources stationed on each side of the closure to ensure delivery of service.
Questions or concerns over the closure can be directed to Norfolk Southern: 1 (800) 635-5768.
