Pedestrian Safety Survey
The City of Monroe is pleased to partner with
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) the
Michigan Fitness Foundation, Toole Design, and GUD Marketing to conduct a Pedestrian Education Survey. The goal of the survey is to gain an understanding of resident and visitor knowledge of pedestrian safety in the City of Monroe, including walkability, travel mode tendencies, rights-of- way, and more.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Bike/Ped Assessment of March 2018 charged the State of Michigan and organizations involved with pedestrian safety to lead an educational effort focused on pedestrian safety. This charge, coupled with Michigan’s steady increase of pedestrian crashes, has created a call to action to expand awareness and reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities.
The first step of community engagement in this process is the Pedestrian Education Survey, which will result in a subsequent forthcoming educational campaign. The goal of the campaign is to educate Michigan citizens, pedestrians and drivers alike, about best practices and laws surrounding pedestrian transportation in order to reduce the total number of pedestrian crashes, fatalities, and severity of injuries.
Survey results are confidential and will be used to not only make the community a safer place to commute. Baseline data from the survey will help establish the community’s knowledge of laws impacting pedestrians, perception of pedestrian safety issues; driver and pedestrian roles in and knowledge of pedestrian safety, and knowledge of existing traffic safety campaigns.
The City of Monroe is one of three target communities in Southeast Michigan chosen for this campaign.
The online survey will be available from
May 15th through May 29th, 2023.
